Afroz Ahmad

Afroz Ahmad (born 14 November 1958) is an Indian Environmental Scientist and Development Administrator. Afroz is internationally acclaimed for his leading role in application of Environmental impact assessment on major water resources projects in India and the Himalayas. Afroz played a leading role in coordination, monitoring, and policy planning related to Rehabilitation of half a million displaced people mostly Adivasi displaced due to major dams such as Sardar Sarovar Dam, Omkareshwar Dam, Indirasagar Dam on the Narmada River. He is an advocate in integrating environment and development for ensuring Sustainable development in India.
On 5 December 2014, Afroz was appointed Member (Environment & Rehabilitation) of Narmada Control Authority, Ministry of Water Resources (India) after the approval Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister of India.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=NARMADA CONTROL AUTHORITY )
==Early life and education==
Afroz Ahmad was born in Balrampur. He was the only son of Usmanghani khan Lodi who was Zamindar and Begum Zahida Khan Lodi. His family has legacy from Lodi dynasty who migrated from Pavagadh (Champaner) in Panchmahal district of Gujarat to Himalyan Terai in early 15th Century.
Afroz earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from MLK PG College Balrampur (Avadh University) Faizabad in 1979 and 1981 respectively. Afroz’s personal motivation started with the frequent Flood and Drought in Eastern Uttar Pradesh when he was student. In 1982, while attending Indian Environment Congress at New Delhi, he met M.S.Swaminathan and got highly impressed from his vision there after he decided to pursue his career in the field of Environment, protection and development in order to help the country for the protection and management of Environment. He started working in a research project under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (India), and was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 1986, for his thesis “Environmental Evaluation of Saryu Canal irrigation Project with emphasis on Ecology and Soil properties for Crop growth”. The research finding was first of its kind in India which attracted attention of all class of people in eastern India and was discussed Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Afroz was awarded United Nations (UNEP)/UNESCO and Government of Germany fellowships for pursuing Policy makers International Training and P.G. Diploma in Environmental Management and Protection during 1987-88. He acquired extensive practical training in Environmental management and Protection from various Institutes, Academies, Universities, Ministries in Austria, Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, & Germany. He was awarded Diploma in Environmental Management and Protection of the United Nations (UNEP)/UNESCO and Government of Germany by the Dresden University of Technology on the Dissertation “ Environmental Impact Assessment of Water Resources Project in India”.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Afroz Ahmad )
